Good afternoon friends and supporters,
This is a little bit of a different email, but we would love your participation.
We’re reaching out with an opportunity to participate in a very important step of our advocacy efforts to become established as a National Museum by signing our petition.
Our goal is to collect 20,000 signatures from across Canada by October 5.
As you know, the RCMP Heritage Centre operates as a non-profit, charitable entity and we receive no operating funding from the RCMP, or Provincial Government and typically not from the Federal Government. As such, all of our revenue is self-generated through admissions, Trading Post sales, programming, and donations.
We have an incredibly important partnership with the RCMP in being entrusted with sharing this foundational Canadian history and exploring the evolution of the service, and the many individual, uniquely Canadian stories held by people who have served communities across Canada.
Becoming a National Museum would mean crucial, consistent, and reliable funding, the ability to expand our team and services and enhance our experience and being amongst the esteemed family of National Museums in Canada. Once established we would be only the third National Museum outside of Ottawa/Gatineau, and only the second in the West.
Our organization has been working on this project since 2020. It was in a mandate letter in 2019, and then the Federal Government invested in our efforts in Budget 2021 and Budget 2024. Just yesterday we celebrated an announcement of Federal infrastructure funding. These are all great steps toward our goal - but we are not yet a National Museum - and we need to demonstrate to the Prime Minister that Canadians are ready for them to complete this process and make good on commitments made.
Petition Instructions:
-
Please visit https://c.org/S6QRmQm87T
- Fill out your first name, last name, email address, and postal code
- Click “Sign Petition”
- On the next screen you will be prompted to support or share - this is not necessary - you can close your browser, or click “Sorry I can’t do anything right now"
- There is no age limit on who can sign the petition
- We ask that people sign the petition as individuals, not as ‘households’ or groups - each individual signature gets us closer to our goal
- We are not asking anyone to donate - this is not a requirement and does not donate directly to the Heritage Centre
Please consider lending your voice to our efforts to be established as a National Museum. Thank you for your support, and your service!
